“Deadpool and Wolverine,” the movie that revived the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), brings to life the teaming up of two of the most iconic Marvel characters: Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman.
The movie opens with Deadpool dancing to “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC and using Wolverine’s bones to attack TVA (Time Variants Authority) soldiers. This iconic scene sets the rest of the movie up to be great.
Once the dance party is over, Deadpool takes viewers back in time to the end of “Deadpool 2,” where the viewers learn some of the back story as to why TVA soldiers are hunting him.
The movie follows Deadpool through his journey to save his world after the death of Wolverine, the man who happened to be the anchor being of the universe. Deadpool and a new Wolverine find themselves trapped in the void — a waste land in which Marvel characters that are deemed too dangerous for their universe are sent as a way to prevent them from causing problems — and are forced to work together to escape it.
The movie features a number of cameos of former Marvel Comics characters such as, Gambit, Blade and Electra, and shows multiple variants (alternate versions) of Deadpool and other heroes, making the movie even more loved by die-hard Marvel fans.
Once the two supers, as Deadpool describes them, return to their proper universe, they’re faced with a new challenge. They must prevent TVA agent, Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen, from destroying Deadpool’s universe.
Paradox developed a machine capable of wiping a universe from existence, with the intent to get rid of Deadpool and his world for good. The duo are able to force Paradox to shut down the machine, but not before Void villain, Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin, takes control of the machine.
Deadpool and Wolverine are once again forced to work together despite the reluctance to and save Deadpool’s universe from extinction.
“Deadpool and Wolverine” is a cinematic masterpiece. The quality of production, plot, and acting is some of the best that has been seen in a while. The storyline follows the first two Deadpool movies but also adds more plot and backstory to the Deadpool world.
The dynamic of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds is unbeatable creating a comedic superhero movie that’s about “friendship” as Deadpool likes to joke. The banter between the two characters in combination with the numerous fourth wall breaks from Deadpool make the movie easily rewatchable, as many fans have numerous times.
The movie was released in July and has already won three Golden Trailer Awards and one Digital Spy Reader award according to IMDB. That itself speaks to how amazing the movie is. “Deadpool and Wolverine” also produced a record breaking weekend for Marvel Studios, earning $444.1 million globally and $211 million domestically according to The Walt Disney Company.
“Deadpool and Wolverine” is one of the best movies released by Marvel in years. It can be said that the movie is the comeback of the MCU and has helped put Marvel back on the must-watch list for many.
