The new indie song “Good Luck Babe” by Chappell Roan took the music world by storm this summer. With her intimate lyrics along with lots of social media praise she became a top artist. This allowed her song to hit 1 million streams on Spotify almost instantly. Despite growing up in a trailer park this rise to fame came naturally for her. In this piece she introduced listeners to her personal struggle with LGBTQ+ identity. Through the track, she expresses her yearning to be loved by a woman that feels the same way for her but won’t come to terms with it. Each lyric conveys the heartbreak she is living with because of the woman she wholeheartedly loves.
Every lyric feels so authentic and is expressed in an upbeat tune to pull it all together. As the song starts, an 11 second introduction draws in the listener’s attention. A similar beat to the intro continues throughout the entire song. Later in the song, Roan’s voice begins to slow and sound distorted, and the verse to sounds different than any other part. The listener begins to feel soothed and it becomes apparent that the song is coming to an end. Different clips of the song have been heard in many different settings such as the radio, social media, etc. In all, the song is very catchy and has touching lyrics that anyone can feel connected to.
