As the chilling weather of October brings frightening nights, the Halloween Haunt will summon frightening ghouls and creatures to spook the guests throughout the night. One of these students is senior Cole Peters, bringing terror and talent to the event.
In his fourth year working at Dorney Park, Peters has achieved seniority during the time he has been a scare actor.
“For the first year, when you scare-act, [I] would just be there [and] they would not let [me] choose. Second year… I was given three options, [and] I was able to become a clown,” Peters said.
The attraction he now works for is CarnEvil: a clown-themed area within the center of the park. CarnEvil incorporates both colorful, creative, and horrific elements of a circus with decorations and the clowns’ unnerving presence. As a clown, Peters conjures fear.
Taking the name of “Shuffles,” Peters adds creativity to the Haunt scene with his magic card tricks to entertain guests.
“[The guest would] pick a card. I shuffle the cards, and then they put their hands out… I place it on the next card, and then out of nowhere, it’ll be in their hand,” Peters said.
Through both his scaring and magic, Peters gives depth to not only CarnEvil but also the Halloween Haunt itself. Guests look for a unique experience and more than a scare and leave the park dumbfounded.
Through the ups and downs, Peters has made his job worth the makeup and magic training kits. He’s not just in it for the money; Peters genuinely enjoys bringing spookiness and surprise to the Halloween Haunt.
“I think if you love acting… you’d love this job…, “Peters said, “It’s funny to see people get scared. It’s also cool to get the magic tricks and people just blow their minds because it just works. That’s what I enjoy the most” In the future, Peters plans to continue this role.
“I might be a slider [a scare actor with knee and palm pads who slides to scare guests],” Peters said, “Sliders are pretty cool. But either [way] I would, I would be happy with my job.” said Peters.
