The new social studies course, Advanced Placement African American Studies, will be offered to 11th and 12th grade students for the 2025-26 school year. After being proposed to the school board back in October 2024, it has officially been added to the Emmaus High School Program of Studies.
The EHS graduation requirements include a government, world, and American Studies credit, and this course cannot fulfill any of these requirements. This one-credit course will satisfy EHS graduation requirement of a humanities credit. Other courses that fulfill the humanities credit include English electives, world languages, music electives, and technology education electives.
Any freshman who is taking Advanced Placement U.S History are able to take this course as an elective their sophomore year but will also have to take a main social studies course.
