The Prince of Darkness. The Godfather of heavy metal. The Madman. Many know him by these names. Ozzy Osbourne was a successful musician, not only a legend, in the heavy metal industry. As we remember and honor heavy metal, let’s take a look back on his career and lifetime as a remembrance of the one and only Ozzy Osbourne.

1967: Osbourne’s career kicked off when he joined the band “Rare Breed” as the lead vocalist at just 19 years old. He built up his fame within the next year.

1968: Osbourne officially joined the band “Black Sabbath.” He was still 19 at this time, but this is when people started to pay attention to him.

1979: At 31 years old, Osbourne was kicked out of Black Sabbath due to his heavy addiction to drugs and alcohol that affected his time on stage and his relationships with fellow bandmates.

Sept 1980: Osbourne came out with one of his most popular songs of all time called, “Crazy Train.” This song was put on one of his most popular and first albums, “Blizzard of Ozz.” Osbourne eventually got nicknamed Blizzard of Ozz. Crazy Train hit the billboards and left marks in the top ten in America, while “Blizzard of Ozz” became number twenty-one on music billboards in the UK.

Jan. 20 1982: During a concert in Iowa, Osbourne bit a bat’s head off. Ozzy thought the live bat was a stuffed toy, but when he bit the head off blood filled his mouth. Although this was the most famous incident of Osbourne biting heads off, in 1981 he did bite a dove’s head off during a meeting with a company.

2002-2005:  Osbourne (53-56 years old), Sharon Osbourne, Jack Osbourne, and Kelly Osbourne, were all the family members that participated in the reality TV show “The Osbournes.” This show streamed on MTV, and showed the chaotic and unfiltered daily lives of  the Osborne family.

2020: Osbourne became ill and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This disease causes neurological injuries, limited movement, shaking, and can affect posture.

July 22, 2025: At 76 years old, Osbourne passed away from a heart attack, two weeks after his farewell tour. Ozzy’s last words publicly were “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

\Even though Ozzy’s death was sudden and unexpected, he lived a great life. Rest in peace, Ozzy “The Prince of Darkness” Osbourne.
