Billie Eilish once again hit her audience hard with the release of her second single “Birds of a Feather” from the album “Hit Me Hard and Soft” on May 17. “Birds of a Feather” achieved huge popularity in the charts due to the way this song displayed the beautiful emotions of friendship and romance.
From the second it starts playing, you can feel a sense of joy in the upbeat melody that reminds me of an adorable childhood song with its bubbly energy. Simultaneously, this song contains profound and emotional lyrics, much like many of Eilish’s hits.
In the song, Eilish talks about the exceptional love she has for someone. The lyrics “I want you to stay, ‘till I’m in the grave. ‘Till I rot away, dead and buried,” expresses this idea, where even death could not tear the two apart.
Additionally, the saying “birds of a feather” means “of the same kind or nature,” which is a creative way to describe how humans find their flock of individuals and love them until the end. However, Eilish also talks about the fear of this love only being temporary when she says it “might not be forever, but if it’s forever it’s even better.”
Undoubtedly, my favorite part of the whole song is when Eilish sings, “I knew you in another life, you had the same look in your eyes. I love you, don’t act so surprised.” This finishes the song with a statement that tugs on heartstrings explaining that love is infinite and can be found in every lifetime.
Eilish has always had such impactful lyrics and has been a fan favorite for years. For me, Eilish has never been in my top listened-to artists, and while I do feel this song has been overplayed, I appreciate this song’s good vibe and tearful lyrics.
