Inspired by his sisters to become involved in the humanities, senior John Anthony brings his culture to each project. His travels abroad influence his acrylic paintings for AP Art and Design class.

With his love of the arts, Anthony plans on majoring in international development at McGill University in hopes of securing a job as an international management consultant.

Though most of his summers were spent flying across the nation, Anthony became involved in numerous activities, including being president of History Day Club, vice president of the Muslim Student Association, Latin president of the World Language Honor Society, and a member of the National Honor Society.

Stinger: What inspired you to pursue international development?

Anthony: Growing up, I traveled a lot with my parents. [They] always took us [my sisters and I] to a lot of amazing places, and I’m someone of Middle Eastern descent, so I went to a lot of Middle Eastern countries. I got to see a lot of developing Asian nations with different kinds of economic issues [and] infrastructure issues. I felt that I wanted to be of service to that, and try to improve those problems as much as I can.

Stinger: What are your favorite memories from high school?

Anthony: [Last summer], I went to Turkey to volunteer for [the] Sea Turtle Conservation Program, and I made some really, really great friends. It was an incredible experience. That really stuck with me as something I accomplished in high school.
