As the school year comes to a close, The Stinger’s Deputy Opinion Editor Gabriella Walter turns the page to begin a new chapter at DeSales University.

Walter plans to study history with a 4+1 plan to get her master’s degree and teacher certification with a minor in Catholic studies. While this is her current plan, her AP Government class during her junior year has continually made her consider majoring in political science instead.

Walter hopes to pursue a doctorate degree in the future and teach as a professor at the college level. Walter brought her insights, along with creativity, to The Stinger and other clubs at EHS. She was the Mud Club’s historian, a club where students use their imagination by creating ceramic pieces and practicing pottery techniques. She also enjoyed Envirothon, where she competed in the forestry category.

Stinger: What advice would you give to underclassmen?

Walter: Find your purpose in what you’re doing at school. Don’t solely focus on your grades. Try to find something that you’ll be able to use past high school, because what you are learning is a lot of critical skills that you are going to need for the future. So I would just say, if you need motivation, just focus on that.

Stinger: What is your favorite story that you wrote?

Walter: My recent one on sports betting at EHS. It took a really long time, but it’s my proudest piece because I spent a lot of time editing and writing, and it was really fun to write. It is about the recent influx of young male sports betters and how that’s kind of shown throughout EHS.

Stinger: What impact do you think you left on EHS?

Walter: It would probably be through my writing, through journalism. I didn’t do any serious topics, but I think I was able to leave fun stories for people to enjoy, like the Labubu story. It’s not about leaving a super big impact, but having a space for students to read a story about something completely random and fun.
